What a great time we had combining our filming expertise with the high-passion, high-stakes environment of a Classic Cars auction! K2 Film and Video Productions had a fantastic two-in-one opportunity to produce footage for the Legendary Motorcar television series, which airs on both the Discovery and Velocity channels, and a television show for the Greensboro Classic Cars Auto Auction (GAA), which aired on FOX TV.
The Greensboro Auto Auction opened in 1986, auctioning vehicles to local and nationwide dealers, rental companies, and banks. One of the largest, independently owned and operated dealer only auctions in the country, the GAA has consistently been a leader in the auto auction industry. The GAA Classic Cars auction is held in their fully enclosed and climate-controlled facility, called “The Palace,” which boasts a main selling floor that can house more than 315 vehicles! The GAA has a really exciting appeal and is open to buyers, sellers, and spectators alike during its three annual auctions in spring, summer, and fall.
K2 managed the project from concept creation, equipment selection, and shooting to editing and adding motion graphics. We used a variety of gear to capture the right tone for broadcast television including DSLRs, ENG Cameras, and GoPros. Ultimately, we were going for the look of many of the top auction shows on TV right now, but since we weren’t shooting live like many of the other shows, we had more control over the final product through the film editing process.
This was a great promotional piece for the GAA, a top player in the Classic Car auction world and one of the biggest auto auctions on the East Coast. The GAA’s goal was to promote their auction and attract more people to attend. They got a ton of great views off of this video project, so they were extremely pleased. Overall, it was a great turnkey broadcast television video, and an impressive experience capturing the auto auction world on film and producing footage for a major television network.
