The Young and The Restless – New York Video Production
For the second time in consecutive months, K2 Productions has supplied footage for CBS’s The Young and the Restless. The Young and the Restless is an American soap opera created by husband and wife duo William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell, dating back to its first episode March 26,1973. Since 1973, Y&R has been leading daytime drama for 25 years straight, and recently renewed a contract with CBS to extend the show through 2017. With the success of this popular American television soap opera, the Bells’ created a sister show titled, The Bold and the Beautiful, which has become a cross over for several Y&R actors.
In season #41, CBS decided on Charlotte, North Carolina’s, beautiful skyline for compositing a new skyscraper to take place in the latter part of the year’s season. Though the story behind it remains to be told, CBS has contracted K2 Productions to provide aerial and ground footage from the stunning view of Marshall Park on 3rd street.
To provide a cost-effective solution for proper compositing, we decided on the black magic cinema camera at 3K resolution in a RAW workflow. This small and lightweight camera offers stunning images at a remarkable bang for the buck. With it’s raw workflow, it will help the editors at CBS properly color grade and scale the footage before dropping the assets into the final composite. Once selecting various points in 3-D space, they will most likely match the building to the aerial footage and/or ground footage to create a seamless skyscraper added to our Charlotte skyline.
K2 Productions is looking forward to providing CBS with upcoming production services to take place later on this year. Hopefully by that time, we will have our hands on the upcoming 4K version that will improve quality and workflow, and continually give our clients the best possible footage for the lowest cost.
