K2 Film and Video Productions had a fantastic two-in-one opportunity to produce a television show for the Greensboro Auto Auction (GAA) and footage for the Legendary Motorcar television series, which airs on both the Discovery and Velocity channels. We used a variety of gear to capture the right tone for broadcast television including the 5D MIII, Glide Cams, Crane, and GoPros.
Legendary Motorcar Company Ltd® first opened its doors in 1985 in Ontario, Canada. They started with an ambition of restoring and trading only the finest and rarest of collectible classic and performance vehicles. After only twenty-five years, Legendary Motorcar has quickly become Canada’s top collector of specialty and rare cars. Since their inception, their inventory has grown to include muscle and sport cars including Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes, and Porsche. Their current 55,000 sq. ft. facility is the shooting location for the Legendary Motorcar television series on Discovery’s Velocity Channel, and includes a 100-car showroom, fully equipped mechanical and assembly bays, downdraft spray booth and body shop, plus a conference center.
In this Season 1, Episode 10 installment, Canadian native Peter Klutt heads to North Carolina to the GAA, a top player in the classic car auction world and one of the biggest auto auctions on the East Coast with three annual auctions in spring, summer, and fall. Peter attended the GAA in search of classic and sporty cars to purchase for a client or resell in Canada. He also traveled to Winston-Salem and Kernersville during his North Carolina visit.
Peter deemed his trip to Greensboro a ‘big success’ with 6 car purchases at the GAA and 2 car acquisitions outside of the auction, including a classic car purchased from Ray Evernham, American consultant for Hendrick Companies and former crew chief for NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon. Altogether it was a great experience capturing the auto auction world on film and producing footage for a major cable network show.
